The Process

Every hard drive we take in goes through a secure and rigorous process which results in the total destruction of all data.

Step One

All PCs and laptops are checked for hard drives. The drives are labelled for tracking purposes and stored in a secure safe to await processing.

Step Two

The drives are then systematically wiped using Secure Erase. This step is always performed in a locked room.

Step Three

Once erased, a certificate is produced if it was requested by the client. We also perform test reads on random hard drives to ensure the data is destroyed, and to date we have never encountered a readable drive.

Data Security

Acorn operates a strict policy for any hard drives or other data-containing mediums that we receive. You can rest assured that any sensitive data that may have been given to us will not be retrievable once the data security process has been completed.

Why is this necessary?

Many of the hard drives we receive could potentially contain sensitive information. For instance, customer or employee information, or bank account & credit card data. For this reason we take every precaution to ensure this data cannot be retrieved.

Tools

To wipe hard drives we use Secure Erase which is capable of rendering all data on the drive irretrievable, and is approved by the U.S. National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST).
